DISCORD ADDAMS

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to interview the fabulous, Discord Addams; an amazing drag queen from Ohio. She was very lovely to talk to and I learned a lot about her during our chat!

Tell us about who Discord is.
In two words, Discord is just polished bullshit. To get a bit more descriptive, Discord is an aspiring rockstar trying to make it big by sleeping with one cover band at a time. Discord wants to do it all, I don't think there's a type of drag I don't want to embody because then people can't come for you and say you're a one trick pony. Discord is glamorous, ugly, artistic, terrifying and beautiful but above all else, Discord is a fucking rockstar! Discord means chaos and chaos comes in many forms. I'm not here to make friends or enemies, I'm here to show the world what I have to offer and what I have to say. I'm not a fad queen or a 'yaas' queen and I don't like Caitlyn Jenner and that doesn't make me transphobic. You don't have to be offended by the latest manufactured news gossip just because Buzzfeed told you to be. Just believe in me and let the chaos ensue!

When did you start doing drag?

Who are your main inspirations and why?
I draw most of my inspiration from theatrical rockstars like Alice Cooper, Vince Neil, and Bret Michaels' lace front. I like the rockstars of the 80's because they were the biggest drag queens around, but they were also sleeping with the most women and I find it fascinating. More than that though, I believe people like Alice Cooper and Lady Gaga just add an extra element to performing that makes everything more interesting and visual. I have little desire to just go on stage, choose a top 40 hit 5 minutes before show time and shake my ass for 4 minutes. I want people to leave my shows and feel something or think "Wow I can't believe I just saw that!"

You did transformations with James St James! What was it like working with him?
Working with James was an experience I'll never forget. James was a huge inspiration of mine back in high school before I even knew I wanted to do drag. So receiving the opportunity to get to work with him brings everything so full circle. He was so warm and kind hearted; it was so nice to feel so welcomed.

What are your future plans for your drag career?
The same plans I have every night... to try to take over the world!

What is your favourite song to perform?
Lady Gaga's cover of 'What's up' or my recreation of 'Swine' where Gidget pukes all over me!

Who are your favourite people to work with?

My Boyfriend, Gidget Von Addams! Without her, drag would be a lot less fun. We really work well off each other and have created a team so beautiful and unstoppable and I can't wait for everyone to see what we have in store for the future. And Biblegirl! Hands down my favourite lady to work around! Our aesthetics are so different but we are so like-minded and she is so genuine, which is hard to find in the gay community. Bible and J are my closest drag friends and the closest thing I would consider to a drag family. I'd also love to give a huge thank you to the love and support I receive from the ladies in the Drag Coven because fuck you to anyone who thinks biological women can't do drag! It's all art and no one has the right to tell anyone that their art is wrong. These girls show more creativity and support than half the cis queens I've ever met!

If you could work with any 'RuPaul's Drag Race' queen, who would it be and why?
Jinkx! I love her personality so much and I think she would just be so easy and wonderful to work around. Visually I think Sharon and I could create some interesting art.

If you could tour anywhere, where would it be?
Australia!!

What is your all-time favourite drag look?
All of my looks have been my favourite at one point or another, but right now it's probably my Troll St Troll.

So you've got quite a lot of fans now! How do you feel about your fan base?
My fan base is a huge inspiration of mine! I love everyone who supports me so much because without the support, my art would be meaningless. I'm here for a combination of myself and my fans; no one else. I've gotten a lot of shit for my brand of drag from other entertainers and if you don't like what I do, close your fucking eyes and ears because it's not for you. I'm not here to sugarcoat my opinions, I'm here to say and show what I believe and hope that someone is listening or else this huge platform has been wasted. I'm here to reciprocate the support you've shown me the best that I can. My fans mean more to me than just likes on an Instagram photo. I love seeing every single message and piece of fan art you guys throw at me!
