Hedin Slime is a creative genius - visible through her colourful social media feeds, all flooded with her latest looks. One word in particular comes to mind - flawless. I got the chance to ask the man behind the mystery about fashion, the nightlife scene in NYC and what's really next for Hedin Slime.
First of all, tell me about the person behind Hedin. Who are you?
Aaron. 23. Boy/Man... Born with eyes with attention to detail. I am currently roaming the streets of Manhattan but living in Brooklyn. Long story short, I was a “different" boy living in a small town in Ohio. With dreams to move to the big city to pursue an education in fashion! I always listen to God, he said there was a “different” way to pursue my artistic outputs. Later then sooner, I became a make-up artist and Hedin was born.
Describe Hedin in 3 words.
Otherworldly Aliennesque, Instinctual, Cynical, with an underlying Sophistication….is that three words?
What appealed to you about makeup artistry?
In high school my interest blossomed for makeup and it all began. Ever since then I have always experimented with all varieties of products in the cosmetic field. Being behind the scenes of shoots and modeling, creative directing, and witnessing the transformations at the hands of the makeup artist is when God’s message came to mind. That is the moment I decided that I wanted to be a makeup artist. I attended Make-Up Designory and graduated in their Multi-Media Program. Dramatic or not. I believe that any professional makeup application can make someone feel beautiful inside and out. My dream is to take over the make-up world.
You create some ridiculously stunning looks - where do you draw your inspirations from?
A true follower of fashion, I pay close attention to what is going down the runway during all of the fashion weeks. I am an alien who steals the skins of humans on earth, I take my skinsperation from the world around me. I draw some of my inspirations from outer space, futuristic looks, the supermodel 90’s era, and grunge.
Big lips are undoubtedly part of Hedin’s signature - what are your must have lip products/colours?
I do love a big, juicy pout! I was blessed with large lips that give me a great base for my looks. Liquid Lipsticks are a must for me, every brand, every color, every formula. Most of my looks include nudes, taupe to brown, and dusty pinks. My main signature look includes Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in “Liar” & Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in “Celebrity Skin”.
Your name is a reference to Hedi Slimane - Creative Director for SAINT LAURENT. Are you a big follower of fashion?
Formerly a fashion student, I am constantly looking in fashion magazines, blogs, and discovering underground designers to draw inspiration from. Hedi Slimane is a Creative Director that I have always looked up to. I always love how he’s been able to evolve fashion houses like he did for Dior Homme and as he’s doing now for Saint Laurent. Evolution is my one of my main aesthetics and he’s continually inspires me to do so.
What is the nightlife scene like in NYC?
There is a constellation for everyone in New York City nightlife.
Who are some of your favourite queens right now?
Anita Mortuary, Naomi Smalls, Alaska Thunderfuck, Alyssa Edwards, Rubber Child, Lisa Limbaugh, Shea-Couleè, imp_kid, James Majesty, oh yeah Miss Fame, Raven, Pearl too, in no particular order. Was that a lot ?
What tips would you give to new artists?
Don’t be afraid to be different and explore new ideas. Lead, not follow.
