Audiophelle: The Xcerts

I'll always remember the first time I heard The Xcerts.

I was browsing on Deezer, and it gave me a suggested track called 'Shaking In The Water'. Every time that I went on Deezer, I was getting this track suggested to me and I eventually stopped skipping out of habit to give it a proper listen. It was wonderful. It had such an unusual but beautiful sound, and I loved the vocal style. About a month after I'd heard 'Shaking In The Water', I took a gamble with this band that I'd never heard of and bought their latest album, 'There Is Only You'.

I instantly fell completely in love. My favourite track from the start and to this day is 'There Is Only You', a song that starts as a piano led ballad and then progresses into a fast, powerful rock song at the end. 'She' and 'Teenage Lust' are also both well worth a listen. 'She' is a bass driven slow ballad sort of rock song, with some of the most cohesive lyrics that I've ever heard. One of my favourite lines has to be:

"I won't apologise for something that you feel is wrong that I did right."

It fits incredibly with the pace of music. 'Teenage Lust' is heavier, with themes of recklessness throughout. My favourite lyric however has to be:

"I'll find love in the back of a car, your teenage lust didn't get you too far."

The album really is a hidden gem, and I would 100% recommend it to anyone.
