A lot of the artists I find and start listening to are made accessible to me through social media. Cassie Swinney, AKA Cottonsocks is one of these artists. With her ethereal tones, smooth melodies and intriguing persona; her recent album 'Sounds of the Night' is a staple listen on my playlist. Having downloaded her latest EP 'Head As A Heart', I was more curious about her than ever.
So what/who inspires her? And how does she keep her flawless complexion?
Q: Thank you for agreeing to answer some questions! First, what genre would you categorize your music as?
A: Hmm tricky! I guess you could put it in the broad category of Alternative Pop. I'm influeneced by a lot of different artists from Tom Waits to Kanye West.

Q: When did you first start writing / performing music?
A: I studied music all through school and started writing when I was about 16. I Recorded my first EP when I was 17. From there I played with a few different bands and recorded several albums. I used to perform a lot and it is one of my favourite things to do but having moved to a different State and not having a band to play with I haven't been performing recently. Hopefully I will get to again soon!
Q: Is Lana Del Rey an act you like to be associated with? Does she inspire you now?
A: I really admire Lana Del Rey, I like that she is a female artist that is popular but does her own thing. She creates her own world within her music and videos and that is something I strive to do.

Q: What kind of music did you listen to growing up? Do you think that's influenced how you write now?
A: I still love the artists I started listening to about ten years ago, no new artists really apart from Lana Del Rey and Kanye West has inspired me more then PJ Harvey, Cat Power and Tom Waits.
Q: What is your number 1 beauty product that you can't live without? (Sorry, you always look flawless so this I have to know!)
A: Probably a good Glycolic face scrub, Ive found these really improve my skin!
Q: What's your favourite song on your album 'Sounds of the Night"?
A: Its hard because this album has songs that are pretty old and then some that I wrote a few weeks before I released it. I Like "Dirty Deeds" because I think this song captures the way I like to write music but I also really love the Jazzy style of "Monroe".
Q: When can we expect new music from you?
A: I have just released an EP that I actually recorded a few years ago but at that time my father passed away so I never really put it out for people to listen to as I wasn't in the right state of mind. I recorded it with a bunch of Jazz musos and electronic instrumental producers SolaAndata. I think its kinda cool. I'd like to write more music soon, I just need a little inspiration! I've been dealing with a few personal problems and just need to find my belief and inspiration again.
