It's that time again! I'm revealing some of the Ailurophelle team's favourite books because as we all know, reading is fundamental. Here they are, in no particular order.
- I'll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson
'What is bad for the art is good for art.'
The story follows Jude and her twin brother Noah, and it gives you everything you would hope for in a young adult novel; love, jealousy and heartbreak. Like Nelson's other novels, it isn't an easy read, it demands your attention in the most beautiful way and draws you in to the characters lives.
- More Than This by Patrick Ness
'Haven't you ever felt like there has to be more?'
A novel about love and survival. The protagonist of the story (Seth) is gay, but it is more of a side comment, rather than in a lot of novels where if there is an LGBTQA+ character that tends to be the main focus of the plot.
- Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
'You have to pretend you get an endgame.'
Thrilling, moving and magical. A story filled with ghost, monsters and love. Rowell captivates her audience as always.
- For Today I Am A Boy by Kim Fu
'The older you get the more every trauma is the same trauma'
Named after a song by Anthony and the Johnson's, the story follows young transgender child, Peter Huang. Structured in short, intense fragments and poetic scenes, it is a touching tale that you couldn't forget.
- Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan
' It's gonna hurt because it matters.'
The book is told from the perspective of two teenage boys both named, you guessed it, Will Grayson. They are living completely different lives but the magic happens when their paths cross.
- The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
'I would die for you. But I won't live for you.'
An honest, coming of age story. It follows Charlie, a struggling outsider in his pursuit to fit in and find friends as he enters a world of sex, drugs and the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Hopefully I've given my fellow book lovers something new to read and I hope you enjoy!
