CLIQUE - Top Field

Melodic indie-rock band CLIQUE have recently released a music video for their brilliant new single “Top Field”. The track is taken from CLIQUE’s sophomore full-length album Burden Piece, that will be released on May 27th through Topshelf Records. It will be the Philadelphia-based band’s first major release on Topshelf. The band consists of PJ Carroll (Vocals/Guitar), Brandon Shipp (Guitar/Vocals), Tom Anthony (Drums) and Travis Arterburn (Bass). For this album, the latter also decided to take on the role of producer at The Headroom studios in Philadelphia, where the album was produced during a timespan of 8 days in November of last year.

The video for Top Field is basically your typical behind the scenes studio filming, and gives you a look into their recording process. It captures moments from the time they spent in the studio to record Burden Piece. Expect to see lots of beer, air guitars, and the enthusiasm and hard work of an exciting young band. “At first it was kind of a joke, like, let’s make it sound bad, but now it’s like, let’s be good at making it sound bad”, drummer Tom Anthony says at the beginning of the video.

As it turns out though, their efforts to 'be good at making it sound bad’ caused them to deliver a song that actually sounds really good and will most likely stay in your head for days. The song appears to be influenced by early alternative bands from the and 90´s and early zeros. It probably comes as no surprise that the band states Pedro The Lion, Duster and Bedhead as their biggest musical influences. Top Field is a very gloomy and straightforward anti-cop anthem that delivers a clear message. “So run, run, make the piggy work for his paycheck” they sing as a deep yet languid guitar riff fills your ears. The tune definitely got us excited to hear the rest of the album - although that might also have something to do with the fact that the track is only 2 minutes long.
