Going into the Moose Blood concert on the 11th of April pretty much in the dark about the support acts, I was not expecting to be so wowed by the quintet that talked Snapchat filters and their mums on stage. A pleasant surprise, to say the least.
That night, I had come face to face with The Winter Passing.
Formed in 2012, the Dublin based (with beautiful, beautiful Irish accents), indie pop band is full of energy on stage - getting the crowd to bop to their sound within the early stages of their set. With the sweet sounding tone of Kate Flynn’s voice, alongside her brother’s punk vocals, all with the cool music what makes The Winter Passing - well, the Winter Passing. Putting it simply, they are musicians that easily make you fall in love with them. They have a clear connection with each other whilst performing and it is so, so nice to see.
Clearly an upcoming favourite of the alternative genre, I took the opportunity to ask them a few questions about what is currently going on and what they are anticipating in the future.

Q: Firstly, how long have you guys been together and how is life on tour treating your relationship with each other?
TWP: So we've been a band for the bones of four years now. Tour life is great, it's my favourite part of being in a band. We all get on really well so tour doesn't necessarily effect our relationship with each other. I'm pretty lucky to say that I'm in a band with my best friends.

Q: I saw your first album "A different space of mind" is now out, can you talk about what inspired the piece?
TWP: ADSOM is essentially an album about coming of age, the transition between teenage life and adult life. It's a trying time for any young adult and I guess when we started writing the album, we were all at different stages of this process so it's coming from everybody's angle and view on their own transformation.

TWP: Personally, a lot of things inspire me but my biggest inspiration is females. Ever since I was a child, I was just so besotted with females in the music industry, especially punk. It's inspired me ever since.
Q: If you couldn't be successful musicians anymore, what would you be doing?
TWP: I mean, I have a degree in Social Care, so I'd probably do that but I think I'd like to get into interior design.

Q: What is your favourite song to perform live?
TWP: I have two, penny chains and flowerpot. Penny chains because it's a song that means a lot to me but I love playing flowerpot because I get to just go crazy hitting the drum!

Q: If you got to tour with one person or group, dead or alive, who would it be?
TWP: I've always said that if we got to play with Jimmy Eat World, that I could die happy.
Q: When can we expect new music?
TWP: Maybe later this year but we are busy writing. We just wanna tour this record out a few more times before putting all of our energy into a new record.
Q: And are you planning a solo tour any time soon?
TWP: I'm sure we will do a headline run in the UK again. When, I'm not sure right now! We'll figure it out.

Q: Lastly, what is your favourite snapchat filter?
TWP: Haha, best question! I'm gonna have to go with the dog. Always the dog.
