Joana Serrat's breathy vocals and thoughtful lyrics have captivated and been admired by fans of her first two albums. Her newly released third album 'Cross the Verse' is no exception to this rule. In a sound that can only be described as 'alternative country', 'Cross the Verse' is unlike anything you will hear on your local Top 100 radio station; and thank goodness!
Just by listening to this album, you can tell Joana truly feels and believes every lyric she sings. The sound of her voice brings a certain authenticity that other artists sometimes lack.
Listeners will find themselves almost transported to another, far more relaxed, world than the one we're used to. In particular, the track 'Oh Winter Come' has a 'fairy like' vibe to it. If listeners were to shut their eyes while listening to the track, they would almost not be surprised if they opened them to a 'fairyland' of sorts.
The third track on the album, 'Cloudy Heart' is a collaboration with musician Neil Halstead. Joana and Neil's voice pair perfectly together. They are both equally as strong without sounding as if they are trying to overpower. Fans of Australia's Angus and Julia Stone will certainly recognise the sound and love this track. It certainly is a favourite.
The relaxed vibes of 'Cross the Verse' means that it's a must listen for anyone looking for a bit of 'me time'. Alternative country may not be something the mainstream is ready for just yet but it's certainly on its way there!
