Exciting
things are happening in music-land. The 26-year-old American rapper and singer Brooke Candy has recently released a
stunning new video for her latest single ‘Paper or Plastic’. It seems highly unlikely to us that
you’ve never heard of Brooke Candy before, but for those who have no idea who
we’re talking about; let us introduce you to an artist who is both raw and
exciting, and who deserves to become the next big thing!
Californian based artist Brooke Candy is well known for co-starring in the music
video for Grimes' hit single
"Genesis". The star has also released quite a few gems of her own,
with some of her most popular songs being ‘Opulence’ and ‘Das Me’. Her style
can be described as a little bit over-the-top, bold,
extravagant and a bit wild, but always without losing its raw edges and
authenticity. In August of 2015 and in May of 2016, she even partnered up with famous make-up brand MAC Cosmetics on two lines of makeup products, which sold out very quickly. She’s
also known for expressing strong feministic ideals, being openly pansexual, and
having a very sexualized yet tough image. Long story short; Brooke Candy is equally as interesting as undeniably
talented, and probably has quite a few more tricks up her sleeves. Because
without a doubt; Brooke Candy was born to be a popstar!
Fast forward to 2016. Nowadays, Brooke Candy is living a completely sober lifestyle and has been working on new music for a while.
The artist is slowly nearing the release date for her her long-awaited debut album,
namely the exclusively by Sia co-produced and
co-written Daddy Issues.
Following the release of new songs like “Happy
Days”, “Changes” and most recently, “Nasty”, Brooke Candy has now
returned with yet another amazing tune called “Paper Or Plastic”. The track
contains a little more pop influences and a little less rap than what we’re
used to hearing from her, but also features a dreamy melody that’ll be stuck in
your head for days. However, Brooke Candy has never been one to just churn out mindless pop music, and Paper Or Plastic
is the prove of that. Regardless of the mainstream
recognition she has gained since her beginning days, she has managed to
sort of stay in the underground and to always produce something slightly odd and unique.
Paper of Plastic is a fun listen and easy on the ears, but also addresses issues like commercialism, selling
out, and also superficiality. However, the video that goes with the song tells a
whole different story.
In the Darren Craig-directed short for Paper Or Plastic,
we see Brooke Candy and a handful of other women in a cult-like environment and a 'sister wives' type of household on a farm. The household is governed
by one single man, who is the epitome of the word 'misogynist'. The women are extremely looked down upon by this said man,
and basically treated like second class citizens. But halfway through the video, these women just about had
it with being patronized and used all the time. Done with living under the patriarchy, they eventually get their revenge. Without much further ado, we suggest you take a look at the video and see for yourself what the hype is all about!
