NEW PICKS: 1955


It isn't often I hear new music that really stands out (positively) among the unwavering tide of new artists today; nor am I often impressed by the thematic notions behind any of it. Nothing symbolizes anything that makes any sense. Long gone are the days where music was simply there to be enjoyed - now almost everything has to have connotations with a tainted youth or years of drug abuse. It's all incredibly... stale?

That's where I'm genuinely very impressed with 1955 (The name paying homage to the huge cultural and musical shift that happened during 1955). Hailing from San Francisco, the quartet are achingly cool - but being inspired by Los Angeles at night, the desert, palm trees and the surrealist films of David Lynch; how could they be anything otherwise
